Abstract
Compounds of the general formula:- <FORM:0922443/IV(a)/1> in which R is a methoxyphenol, dimethoxyphenyl, methylenedioxyphenyl, or thienyl radical, and R1 is a methyl or ethyl radical are produced by mixing a compound of general formula:- <FORM:0922443/IV(a)/2> where R and R1 are as above, with cysteine, when the desired product is obtained. The reaction is preferably carried out at 70 DEG to 80 DEG C. in aqueous methanol or aqueous ethanol from which the product is precipitated. Starting materials of formula II may be obtained by reacting a compound of formula R-CH2-COOR1 with ethyl formate in the presence of metallic sodium or sodium alkoxide in an anhydrous solvent.
