Abstract

1,3-cyclohexadiene is obtained by dehydrating 2-cyclohexan-1-ol at 200 DEG -500 DEG C. over a solid phosphoric acid, i.e. one obtained by impregnating a solid with a phosphoric acid and drying. The solid used in the catalyst may be diatomaceous earth, flour, silica, mica, charcoal or sawdust and the acid may be in the ortho, meta, hypo or pyro form. The cyclohexanol vapours may be mixed with nitrogen, helium, carbon dioxide or the vapours of water or hydrocarbons. Contact times are 0,1-seconds. The cyclohexanol may be obtained from cyclohexene, the overall process being shown by the equations <FORM:0922207/III/1>
