Abstract

921,865. Ratchet mechanisms. MALLORY BATTERIES Ltd. Sept. 27, 1961 [Oct. 18, 1960], No. 34621/61. Class 80 (3). An advancement mechanism for an intermittent timing device comprises a ratchetwheel 34 engaged by one end 32 of a spring- loaded arm 18 whose other end is guided in a slot 38 in a casing 16 and carries a roller 30 which is engaged by a stepped cam 13 driven through gearing 11, 12 from a motor 10. On rotation of the cam 13, a spring 17 becomes stressed and the end 32 of arm 18 moves back over the ratchet teeth until the roller 30 reaches the cam step whereupon the energy of the spring 17 is released to move the arm 18 and effect rotation of the wheel 20. Backrunning of wheel 20 is prevented by a pawl 21. In a modification, the spring 17 is arranged as shown in Fig. 4.
