Abstract
The invention comprises a compound of the formula <FORM:0921556/IV(a)/1> and the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:0921556/IV(a)/2> (wherein R is an alkyl group in an inert anhydrous organic solvent and in the presence of a tertiary organic base, with a halogen formic acid alkyl or aralkyl ester, reacting the solution of a mixed anhydride so obtained with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a compound of the formula <FORM:0921556/IV(a)/3> to give a compound of the formula <FORM:0921556/IV(a)/4> and hydrolysing this under alkaline conditions. All the steps in the reaction are performed at low temperatures. An example is given.
