Abstract
Articles containing or composed of polyolefins are dyed with a composition containing a cycloparaffinic acid or a derivative thereof. The cycloparaffinic acid derivatives are salts which may contain a dyestuff as cation but the preferred salts are metal naphthenates, e.g. zinc naphthenate. The composition may contain the dyestuff and naphthenate in undiluted form or the constituents may be dissolved in an aqueous or organic solvent. Dyeing is preferably carried out at elevated temperatures and in a continuous manner. The preferred articles to be dyed are filamentary or staple yarns consisting essentially of isotactic polypropylene. The examples describe the dyeing of such yarn with a solvent dye (1) in white spirit as the solvent and (2) in white spirit emulsified in water.
