Abstract
919,984. Sorting photo-electrically. ZKL VYZKUMNY USTAV PRO VALIVA LOZISKA. May 13, 1960 [May 15, 1959], No. 17064/60. Class 40 (3). A sorting device comprises two photo-cells, one of which views the object to be sorted and the other of which receives light direct from the lamp illuminating the object. The photocell outputs are passed to a differential D.C amplifier which operates a bi-stable device which in turn controls the sorting mechanism. In the embodiment illustrated, the test object, a ball-bearing ball K, is rotated so that its surface is viewed in light from a lamp G by a photo-cell Ff. A second cell Fk receives light direct from lamp G through an adjustable diaphragm C 2 . The cells' outputs feed the differential D.C. amplifier Z. The difference voltage passes to the grids of a double triode E 3 which controls the bi-stable device E 4 to operate the sorting mechanism. The device is so adjusted that a defective ball causes the difference voltage developed by amplifier Z to be negative. Variation in output of the lamp G does not cause a non-defective ball to be rejected since such variation produces a similar variation in the outputs of both photo-cells. Lamp G may be supplied with alternating current. Further inspection of the ball for other defects, e.g. in shape, may be made by apparatus similar to that described above but omitting the bi-stable circuit, the output of that apparatus being fed at point 3 to the device described. The result of each inspection then acts independently on the bi-stable circuit.
