919,723. Knitting machines. BENDIX ERICSSON U.K. Ltd. June 22, 1961 [July 7, 1960], No. 23752/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 74 (2). [Also in Group XXXVIII] The pattern of a knitting machine is controlled either manually, or by a punched card or tape or magnetic tape which contains information as to the number of fashions to be performed, the number of courses to be knitted between successive fashions, whether the fashion is an increase or a decrease and the number of stitches concerned. The two latter items control the machine in an unspecified manner. The numbers of courses and of fashions, in binary code are read and stored on sets of bi-stable transistor pairs. Pulses from cam-shaft-contacts cause the stored number of courses to be reduced by one as each course is knitted. When the number has been reduced to one, a coincidence gate is prepared so that when the last programmed course is knitted a relay is operated to initiate a fashions operation. This in turn reduces the stored number of fashions by one, and causes the programmed number of courses to be re-entered in the store. This sequence continues until the fashions number has been reduced to one, when a second coincidence gate is prepared so that after the last fashions operation, a card rack solenoid is operated to advance the programme card and so provide the information for the next set of operations.
