919,504. Hatch covers. CAILLET, R. Nov. 1, 1960 [Nov. 6, 1959], No. 37434/60. Class 113. A hatch cover comprises a plurality of elements 1 to 11 hinged together at 24 so that they can be rolled on to the shaft 14. Each element 2 to 10 is of substantially L-shape so that when the cover is unrolled one limb 17 of each element extends normally of the plane of the cover towards the hatch opening. The limbs 17 are of similar length but the limbs 5, which extend in the plane of the cover when unrolled are of successively differing lengths as shown. The hinges 24 are located below the plane of the cover when unrolled and are sealed by a flexible strip 25. A seal provided around the periphery of the hatchway, comprises a flexible strip secured to the cover elements and adapted to be clamped to the coaming by a toggle arrangement. Fig. 6 shows that the elements 1 and 11 are different, varied in section, to conform with the configuration of the hatch coaming. The limb 17 may be separately formed from channelsection material. To facilitate unrolling of the cover the elements may be further connected by a slotted link arrangement.
