Abstract
918,256. Joining film strips. THEILEMANN, H. A. Sept. 30, 1960 [Sept. 30, 1959], No. 33668/60. Class 98 (2). Two film ribbons of different compositions are joined together by joining them both to an intermediate film strip of multi-layer construction; the two outer layers of the intermediate strip are of the same materials as the respective film ribbons, the like surfaces being joined together. In Fig. 1, two film ribbons of different material, such as nitrocellulose and polycarbonate, are shown as 1 and 2. (The emulsion layers on the films are removed over the area intended for joining.) The intermediate strip comprises foils 3, 4 of the same materials as 1, 2, respectively, foils 3, 4 being stuck together by an adhesive layer 5 of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl isobutyl ether, which may be prepared as given in a specific example. The same example specifies the adhesive compositions which are then used to stick the two cellulose surfaces together, and the two polycarbonate surfaces together. In a further example, the adhesive layer 5 securing the two foils 3, 4 together is itself formed as a multi-layer construction, comprising three different layers of specified materials.
