[Also in Groups VIII and XV] A composite material comprising a layer of high-density polythene and a layer of lowdensity polythene adhering thereto, the layers being in the form of sheets, films or fabrics, or the second layer being formed as a coating on the first, is used as a lining for rubber and other footwear, particularly in the heel region, the footwear being made by pressing the material at a temperature at which the low-density layer is substantially, and the high-density layer less softened, to the material of the footwear. The latter may be the rubberized fabric used in making a rubber boot, lamination and vulcanization in this case being carried out simultaneously in the mould. In a modification, given as an example, an assembly, comprising a cotton fabric coated on its underside with vulcanizable rubber, a sheet of low-density polythene and a sheet of high-density polythene, was covered with a layer of starched glazed linen and lightly pressed with heating, the linen then being removed; the cooled laminate was built up on a Wellington boot former and subjected to heat to produce a high-density polythene lined boot.
