The angular position of a shaft is transmitted to a remote indicator by electrical means and is transmitted to a local monitor display by means of a flexible mechanical drive. The flexible mechanical drive may be connected between the transmitter and the monitor display by means of plug-and-socket joints to facilitate redisposition or replacement of the monitor. The monitor display may be illuminated, the intensity of illumination being controlled automatically in accordance with the intensity of external illumination.
