Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] The protective tube 3 for the push rod of the overhead valve of an air-cooled internal combustion engine is supported at its ends in cylindrical bores 6, 14 formed respectively in the cylinder head 7 and crankcase 16 by mountings, at least one of which is in the form of a solid rubber ring of trapezoidal or substantially trapezoidal cross-section having its inner and outer peripheres held against the co-operating surfaces of the tube and bore in such manner as to prevent relative movement between the surfaces and provide a fluid-tight seal. The desired connection between the surfaces may be provided by relying upon the resilient pressure of the ring, using an adhesive or vulcanizing them together. The upper ring 4 is shown as trapezoidal and the lower ring 10 of substantially this shape with a ridge 12 engaging a recess in the bore 14. Alternatively, both rings may be trapezoidal with stepped portions for engaging stepped formations in the bores, or one ring may be trapezoidal and mounted as described, while the other is of conventional form. A retaining plate 8 prevents upward movement of the tube.
