Abstract
915,718. Feedwater heaters. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 31, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29579/58. Class 64 (1). In a feedwater temperature-control system for a steam-turbine plant, the feedwater temperature is automatically adjusted by controlling the pressure in the feedwater de-aerator 1, 2 by means of steam, the quantity of steam supplied being determined by a pressureactuated flow-controller 12 responsive to pressure in the de-aerator and wherein a second pressureactuated flow-controller 16 responsive to pressure in the de-aerator operates a relief-valve 8 between the de-aerator and a point of lower pressure, such as the condenser 37. The deaerator comprises upper and lower vessels 1, 2, feedwater being supplied to the upper vessel through a pipe 3. It is drawn off by a pump 4 and passes to a boiler (not shown) through a pipe 5. Exhaust steam passes from a backpressure turbine 26 into the upper vessel and excess is passed, via the pipe 7, into the condenser 37 of a main turbine 36. A loadcontroller 20 connected to the supply pipe 24 to the turbine 26 is also connected by a pipe 19 to the flow-controller 12, and through a pipe 15, to the second flow-controller 16. A heater 45 is inserted in the supply-pipe 3 in heatexchange relationship with steam tapped off the pipe 6, condensate being pumped back into the pipe 3 by a pump 46. A reservoir 41 is connected both to the condenser 37 and to the lower vessel 2.
