Abstract
915,478. Diaphragm vibrators; resonators. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 20, 1961 [Oct. 17, 1960], No. 35503/60. Class 13. An electromagnetic tone producer, intended particularly for use as a calling device in a telephone set, comprises an electro-acoustic transducer 2 having a diaphragm 7 which, being vibratable in response to the application of tone current to an electromagnet 11 of the transducer, is acoustically coupled to the external air through a tuned acoustic resonator 3 acoustically open at one end towards the diaphragm 7 and tuned to resonate in response to vibration thereof, the resonator 3 being tuned in the manner of a Helmholtz resonator by a transversely-extending apertured part 13 provided at its other end and having at least one aperture 14 through which that other end of the resonator is acoustically open towards the external air. As shown, the transducer is of the balanced-armature ring-magnet type. There may be two resonators, one on each side of the diaphragm.
