Abstract
Smooth granules of fertilizer are formed by pressing granules suspended in a gas stream through a hot yore and then allowing them to cool. During heating, the granules may be exposed to a reducing or oxidizing atmosphere or to formaldehyde. The granules may be coated with a finely divided material which is introduced with the granules or blown into the hot zone. Alternatively, the granules from the hot zone may be fed to a bed of calcium carbonate, china clay or plaster of Paris. The fertilizer may be urea or comprise (by weight) 10% of ammonium nitrate, 70% of ammonium sulphate and 20% of potassium chloride.ALSO:Smooth granules of fertilizer are formed by passing granules suspended in a gas stream through a hot zone and then allowing them to cool. During heating, the granules may be exposed to a reducing or oxidizing atmosphere or to formaldehyde. The granules may be coated with a finely divided material which is introduced with the granules or blown into the hot gas. Alternatively, the granules from the hot zone may be fed to a bed of calcium carbonate, china clay or plaster of Paris.
