Abstract

914,922. Servicing reactors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 15, 1961 [Sept. 1, 1960], No. 30173/60. Class 39 (4). A reactor servicing machine operable whilst the reactor is on load comprises a cylindrical pressure vessel 1 having a rotatable turret 2 whereby a number of servicing means can be brought into an operating position. Of these servicing means only a fuel element storage magazine 5 is shown. The magazine has six compartments 5 and may be indexed in one direction or the other by operating an appropriate reciprocating assembly 6 or 7. Each assembly comprises a push rod 8 mounted in bearings 10, 11 on the magazine and carrying a pawl 14 pivoted on a pin 13, a block 21 secured to the rod being biased by a spring-loaded telescopic tube 22. On depression of a rod 8 against the bias of the tube 22 the pawl 14 engages a roller 16 on the magazine and the latter is indexed one step. The rods are operated by tappets 24, 25 extending through the wall of the vessel 1.
