Abstract

914,558. Stereophonic recording and reproducing apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 1, 1959 [May 5, 1958], No. 14978/59. Class 40 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] A piezo-electric element comprises a rod built up of at least two elements each having a piezo-electric axis normal to electrodes on opposite faces and normal to the axis of the other element. In Fig. 1, square sectioned rods 3 and 4 have outer electrodes 7 and 9 and an interleaved electrode 8, while to one side of the pile is secured a flat rod 2 with electrodes 5 and 6. Voltages on terminals X and Y indicate or produce horizontal and vertical components of bending. In Fig. 3 the element 2 is replaced by two side-by-side square sectioned elements of opposite polarization while the elements 12 and 13 are also oppositely polarized to double the sensitivity of the transducer. The element may be mounted at one end and in the middle while carrying a stylus arm at the other end, the stylus lying on the axis of the rod.
