Abstract

914,527. Endless conveyer driving apparatus. GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA. June 11, 1959 [June 19, 1958], No. 20059/59. Class 78 (1). A double-chain scraper conveyer is driven by four drive mechanisms of which two are arranged at each end of the conveyer, three of these mechanisms comprising motors 2 of the same power, a clutch 3 and a mechanical gearbox 4, and the fourth driving mechanism comprising a motor 2 of the same power as the other three motors, a clutch 3 and a torque converter 5 which has a transmission ratio of 5:1. The arrangement is said to give adequate starting torque without employing excessive power which would damage the conveyer in the event of jamming of the scrapers, the combined power of the motors being just sufficient to drive the conveyer at normal running speed.
