Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0914507/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl group containing 10-20 carbon atoms and X is a halogen atom, or an alkyl or alkoxy group containing 1-4 carbon atoms are prepared by reacting the phenyl ester of 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid with the appropriate aniline and then sulphonating with chlorosulphonic acid. Specified compounds are those wherein R is decyl, tridecyl, dodecyl, tetradecyl and heptadecyl and X is chlorine or bromine, methyl, ethyl, butyl and methoxy. Specification 831,731 is referred to.
