914,320. Temperature measurement. ANTAR PETROLES DE L'ATLANIQUE. Nov. 29, 1960, No. 41035/60. Class 40 (1). [Also in Groups XXXV and XL (b)] The purity of a test fluid fed via supply valve 11 to chambers 3, 2 is determined by recording the temperature at which crystallization begins in the test fluid due to cooling by expansion of CO 2 under pressure fed via nozzle 5, the onset of crystallization being detected by comparison of the outputs of photo-cells 17, 18, the temperature-sensitive element being a thermistor 19 and comparator 20 output controlling valve 11 to maintain test fluid input rate such that constant turbidity in chamber 3 ensues. The mixture is freed from CO 2 bubbles by vent port 13 and test fluid is discharged via pipe 23, 22. The fluid tested may be paraxylene. The cooling fluid may be freon or air. Windows 14, 15 may comprise two transparent walls enclosing vacuum. Valve 11 is actuated to open or close, or is adjustable by a system incorporating a reversible motor. Thermometer 19 output signal may be used to modify a process of manufacture whenever the temperature sensed drops below a prescribed value indicative of minimum permissible purity of the manufactured product.
