Abstract

914,156. Packaging. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE GES. Aug. 23, 1960 [Aug. 31, 1959], No. 29077/60. Class 94(1). Apparatus for packaging articles or batches by tubing a web around them and sealing and severing it between them includes means between the tubing device and the sealing station to engage the tube and retain correctly positioned, the articles within it. The tube is formed about articles 1 from a web 8 and is advanced by rollers 10-12, at least one part of which forms the seam 9. If, alternatively, a flush seam is required, opposed belts (not shown) may advance the tube. Article positioning elements 27 are adjustably located on a belt 24 and have points which pierce the tube enabling air to escape during constricting and sealing by jaws on rollers 13, 14. Side folders 17 may simultaneously form gussets adjacent the seals. The packages are severed by members on rollers 19, 20. Adjustment of the spacing of the elements 27 may be carried out by means as described in Specification 914,155.
