913,372. Cellular glass. BRITISH & OVERSEAS MINERALS Ltd. Feb. 25, 1960 [Feb. 25, 1959], No. 6622/59. Class 56. [Also in Group XII] Volcanic rock material such as perlite is expanded into cellular glass particles in a furnace (see Group XII), comprising a vertical processing chamber 21, a plurality of shelves 24 and nozzles 23 arranged one above the other, and one or more combustion chambers 22, the material to be expanded being introduced at the top and then moved from one shelf to the next down the processing chamber into which through the nozzles the products of combustion from the combustion chambers are directed. The shelves are arranged in staggered relation adapted to be withdrawn into arcuate passages 25 and 26.
