Abstract
Liquid bis(trialkyl tin) oxides are prepared by reacting a liquid trialkyl tin halide with a solid alkali metal hydroxide or solid alkaline earth metal hydroxide in the absence of an organic solvent. Preferred hydroxides are those of sodium, potassium or calcium. The reagents may be heated to remove water formed during the reaction, and the reaction mixture filtered from the alkali or alkaline earth metal halide formed and the desired product isolated from the filtrate by distillation.
