Abstract

912,767. Coating conductors electro-phoretically. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 24, 1960], No. 36416/60. Class 41. Electrical conducting members of rod or tube, e.g. cathodes, are coated with a finely-divided material electro-phoretically, in a limited area, by immersing the part not to be coated in mercury above which rests the liquid suspension of the coating material. A finely-divided suspension of activating material in a liquid 11 connected to a positive terminal, is contained in an open shallow vessel 12, at the bottom of which is a layer of mercury 13 connected to a negative terminal. Above the vessel is mounted on sprockets 17, 18, a conveyer belt 16 formed of hinged plates each of which carries a support post 25 to carry the tubes 24 to be coated. These are covered by sleeves 26 bearing pins 27, which coact with a curved member 28, pushing the sleeve to the end of the tube 26 on entering the bath, and retracting the sleeve when the tube 26 enters the mercury layer. A similar action is effected with the sleeve and a member 29 before the coated member is withdrawn. A vibrating guide 32 positions the tube members on the support posts before treatment.
