Abstract
912,703. Rivet extractors. CYCLO GEAR CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1959 [Aug. 30, 1958], No. 27905/58. Class 61. A tool for inserting and extracting rivets into and from a chain and for freeing the links of the chain after insertion of the rivets comprises an anvil 6 having a transverse jaw 7 to receive the chain and a manually-rotatable screw having a coaxial punch 13 adapted to be forced into abutment with one end of a rivet, a pair of parallel transverse shoulders 14, 25, a rollerreceiving recesses being provided in each shoulder to serve as saddles for locating and receiving the chain rollers 19. The traversing screw 10 and punch 13 are relatively rotatable, the punch being accommodated in an axial socket, a ball housed in the end of the socket providing a seating for the adjacent end of the punch. To insert or extract a rivet the links 8 and roller 19 are supported on the shoulder 25, the outer link plates 8a being received between the shoulder 25 and inner surface 26 of the wall 15. To restore the free pivotal movement of the outer link plates 8a, after insertion of a rivet 9, the assembled links are positioned in the jaw so that the link plates embrace the shoulder 14 with the roller 19 seating upon the recessed saddle 14, the outer link plates 8a being now unsupported. The screw is rotated to take the nose of the punch into engagement with the rivet to cause the outer links 8a to spread apart.
