Abstract
A crack-resistant steel comprises: .Fe. .Cr.12-25% .Ni.5-30% .Mn.6-20% .Ta.0.2-3.0% .C.up to 0.2% .N.up to 0.2% .Si.up to 2.0% Mo, V and W may be added in such amounts that "equivalent molybdenum," defined as " <FORM:0912562/II/1> " is not more than 8 with individual maxima of Mo 8% W 10% + V 4%. The following elements may be added or may be present as impurities: .Nb + Ti < 1/5 Ta. .up to 0.2% Al. .up to 0.01% B. .up to 0.2% Fr. .up to 5% Co. and P and S in usual amounts Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) indicate the effect on susceptibility to hot cracking of 16% Cu 20% Ni balance iron alloys of the addition of various elements including Cu Hf Zn and B.
