Abstract

912,521. Automatic voltage control. BOSCH G.m.b.H., ROBERT. May 16, 1961 [May 17, 1960], No. 17761/61. Class 38 (4). In an electric supply system for a vehicle employing rectified three-phase A.C. with Tirrill-type voltage regulation, the regulator has a voltage coil 32 and an aiding auxiliary coil 35 in series with a germanium diode 40 across a resistor 45 which carries the output current, both the resistor 45 and the output rectifiers 44 being contained within the generator casing to ensure their cooling. The voltage coil may be connected to a common output and battery terminal but, as shown, it is connected to the output only, a rectifier 70 blocking the battery voltage from this coil. When the load current becomes excessive it is arranged that the voltage developed across resistor 45 is sufficient to cause the diode 40 to conduct, the resultant current through coil 35 assisting the voltage coil to open contacts 50, 51 to insert a resistor 53 in the generator excitation circuit 46 and thus reduce the output voltage.
