Abstract
Water-soluble organic mercury compounds are prepared by reacting a compound which has been obtained by reacting a mercuric salt, an organic compound containing one olefinic double bond and from 2 to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule and water or an organic compound containing an active hydrogen atom, with ammonia, an aliphatic amine, an araliphatic amine or a heterocyclic compound having a basic nitrogen atom. Amines etc. specified include methylamine, propylamine, ethylenediamine, morpholine, piperidine, benzylamine and triethanolamine. Organic mercury compounds which may be used as starting material include a -methoxystyryl mercury chloride, methoxy cyclohexyl mercury acetate, ethoxyhexyl mercury propionate, aminophenyl heptyl mercury acetate and methoxy ethyl cinnamate mercury acetate. The products are quaternary compounds e.g. 2 - phenyl - 2 - methoxy - ethyl - 1 mercuric ammonium acetate and 2-phenyl-2-methoxyethyl-1-mercuric-N-propylamino morpholinium acetate.
