912,220. Surgical storage containers. CHAPMAN, H. E. Sept. 21, 1961 [Oct. 11, 1960; Nov. 10, 1960], Nos. 34718/60 and 38567/60. Class 81 (2). A container for the aseptic storage of liquids comprises a container 1 with a closure assembly A. The latter comprises a dish-shaped lid portion 2 fastened to the container and having apertures 7, 7, 8. A rotatable member 14 fits into the recess 10 in the portion 2 and has holes 22, 22, 23 which, by rotation of this member, may be aligned with the holes 7, 7, 8. The holes 22, however, are associated with pads of a foamed plastic material which has been rendered germicidal and which, while preventing the passage of air will permit a hypodermic needle to be passed through them into the container. The member 14 is retained by a stationary plate 24 but is rotatable by an outer cap 28 by means of lugs 31 on the latter extending through arcuate slots in the plate 24. The air inlet 23 leads to an arcuate channel 18 in the plate 24 which is partially filled with filtering material 20, so that air has to pass through this from an external orifice 27. If desired, a similar arrangement B may be fitted to the base of the container but this is not provided with an air inlet. In cases in which the liquid must not be allowed to come into contact with air it is further proposed to employ a member in the form of a free piston, slidable in the body portion 1. This is maintained on the surface of the liquid and descends with it as it is withdrawn.
