Abstract

912,051. Pallets and slings for lifting; lift trucks. TORONTO BRICK CO. Ltd. Dec. 5, 1960 [Dec. 10, 1959], No. 41837/60. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). To handle a stack of bricks 1 (Fig. 1) a pallet, comprising one or more open-topped boxes 2 whose interiors are packed with loose bricks and whose sides have outwardly projecting flanges 6 and 7, is used in combination with lifting elements, such as the tines of a lift track, engageable with the flanges. The or each box 2 forming the pallet is preferably made of fibrous material and comprises (Fig. 3) a base 3, end walls 9, and side walls 4, 5 carrying the outwardly projecting flanges. The walls also have inwardly projecting flanges 10 to 13 to retain in the box sufficient loose bricks 14 to fill it. The lifting elements 20 to 22 (Fig. 4) are preferably provided with rubber or like cushioning at 23, 24, 25 and 26, where in use they support flanges 6 or 7. Fig. 7 shows a complete handling means for two cubical stacks of bricks, consisting of four of the pallet boxes in association with four lifting elements 32 to 35 which are supported by yokes 30, 31. The latter incorporate means 41, 45, 46 for adjusting the relative position of the pallet boxes.
