Abstract
A self-scavenging motor fuel composition comprises a gasoline having an aromatic content between 10 and 60% by volume, and from 1,20 to 4,25 grams of lead per U.S. gallon as an alkyl lead compound; optionally, a triaryl phosphate may be added. Suitable phosphates are triphenyl, diphenyl-tolyl, phenyditolyl, tritolyl, phenyl-dixylyl, ditolyl-xylyl, trixylyl and phenyl-tolyl-xylyl phosphates. The phosphorus-to-lead atom ratio is preferably from 0,4:3 to 1,6:3. The preferred lead compound is tetraethyl lead.
