911,613. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems; valves. BAILEY & CO. Ltd., W. H. Oct. 4, 1960 [Nov. 6, 1959], No. 37673/59. Class 135. A pressure regulator wherein a main valve 15, Fig. 2, is controlled by pressure of the fluid at the valve outlet 13 or at a remote point to which fluid is fed from the outlet has an isolating valve 33 effective to prevent the diaphragm 18 piston or like element from acting under the influence of the pressure of the fluid at the outlet or the remote point, until a predetermined pressure is reached in the latter fluid, whereupon the isolating valve is opened so as to render the diaphragm, piston or like element operative. The input connection 24 of the valve 33 is connected either to the regulator outlet 13 or to a remote piece of apparatus such as an autoclave or sterilizer fed by the regulator while the outlet 27 is connected to the diaphragm chamber 17 which has an adjustable needle valve 41 to bleed it to atmosphere and to determine the pressure at which the main valve starts to close. The valve 33 consists of a stainless steel or plastic ball mounted on an adjustably spring-loaded phosphor bronze diaphragm 30. A sealing bush 14a of p.t.f.e. is provided on the spindle of the main valve. In Fig. 4, the main valve 55 is held open by inlet pressure acting through passages 77, 80 a filter 79 and a pilot valve 72 on a piston 58 until an increase in outlet pressure or in the pressure at a remote point acts through an isolating valve similar to that of Fig. 2 on a diaphragm 68 to allow the pilot valve to be closed by a spring 75. The isolating valve and an adjustable needle valve are connected to the diaphragm chamber 65 by a common connection 83 while the diaphragm 68 is connected to the pilot valve 72 by a push-rod 62 having a gland 62a. A space 60 forming the diaphragm chamber when the pressure regulator is used in the ordinary way is connected by passages 81, 82 with the valve outlet. The diaphragms in both constructions may be replaced by pistons and the isolating valve incorporated in the main valve body. Specification 789,300 is referred to.
