Abstract

911,175. Coated fabrics. SCAN-VAX FABRIKATIONS-, FORSKNINGS - OCH FORSALJNINGS A.B. July 15, 1960 [July 15, 1959; Nov. 23, 1959], No. 24820/60. Class 140. An unsized fibrous cellulose-containing material is coated with a thin surface layer of wax by applying to said material a cationic dispersion of a wax which is free from any salt of deacetylated chitin or deacetylated chondroitin. The dispersion may be an emulsion containing more than 0.5%, e.g. 5 to 50% by weight, of wax, and may be applied to the material in an amount not exceeding 4 grams of wax per square metre of surface area of the material. The dispersion may contain between 0.5 and 15% by weight of cationic emulsifier based on the weight of the wax. The material may take the form of a sheet or band of, for example, paper, fibre slab such as card or board, or a woven material such as cotton cloth. The wax is preferably paraffin or micro-wax. The pH of the emulsion preferably lies between 1 and 8, and the cationic properties of the emulsion originate from the use of a cation-active emulsifier. Suitable emulsifiers are quaternary ammonium compounds, e.g. benzalconium chloride, wherein the alkyl group contains 15 carbon atoms, and cetyl pyridinium chloride, and salts of primary amines having a hydrocarbon radical containing 10 to 40 carbon atoms. The emulsifier may also contain surface-active groups other than amine groups. Coated paper-board may be creased along lines intended to be folded when the carton is made up, and carton blanks punched out therefrom. Specifications 458,815 and 911,174 are referred to.
