Abstract
910,867. Magnetic tape juke-boxes. GAUBERT, R. J. M. Sept. 6, 1961, No. 32068/61. Class 40 (2). A carriage 106 is driven by a bihelical leadscrew 107 to engage a capstan 146 and heads 157, 158 with tape contained in a pre-selected magazine which is interchangeably latched into a slot 19 of a support member and advanced into engagement with the carriage members, a plurality of such magazines being mounted in a side-by-side array. Cams 176, 177 operated by push-and-turn knobs 172 engage either or both of switch means 192, 193 (Fig. 16) related to the heads and to amplifiers whereby monaural or binaural selections may be made by 90 degrees, 270 degrees or 180 degrees rotation, the operative magazine being indicated by a lamp 195. The magazines contain either end-to-end tapes, Fig. 17, or two endless tapes, Fig. 25, the bodies being reversible and supporting two pinch-rollers 39, 41, the lower of which is engageable with the capstan 146, and guide pins 46 to define tape paths with which the resilientlymounted heads 157, 158 may be aligned as in Fig. 13. Tape foils trigger the recording- changing means, and in the case of end-to-end tapes, the magazines may be inverted to play the second track or the tapes may be rewound by rollers 248 (Fig. 1) as selection proceeds, a delay means providing for the last selection to be rewound before the machine stops. In this instance also, take-up drive is provided by a roller 154 engaging an exposed portion 64 of the take-up reel. In a coin-freed embodiment (Figs. 27-30, not shown), a coin-shoot related to each magazine is provided, the coins themselves acting as selector cams.
