Abstract
909,930. Sewing-machines. NECCHI S.p.A. Aug. 30, 1960 [Sept. 24, 1959], No. 29847/60. Class 112. A button-sewing attachment for a zig-zag sewing-machine comprises a support-member attachable to a presser bar of the machine, a device provided with button holding jaws and slidable relatively to support member, the movement of the device being limited by means adapted to be shifted to any one of a plurality of positions in which different limitations of the possible sliding movement of the device relative to the support are effected, the limiting means being so arranged that the extent of movement of the device, and thus the button, for various positions of the limiting means, correspond to various spacings between opposite pairs of holes in four-hole buttons. The support member comprises a body 13 attachable to the presser bar and provided with a slit 14 engaged by two pins 15 rigidly mounted on an element 16 which is thus free to slide in a direction parallel to the work feed. The element 16 carries pins 18 on which pivot the levers 23 carrying the side jaws 24, while the third jaw 21 is provided on a plate 20 slidably mounted under the element 16. To open the jaws to receive a button the plate 20 is moved rearwardly by its upturned end 22, when pins 27 (see Fig. 4) under the plate engage the edges 26 of the levers 23 to open the side jaws against the action of the closing spring 25. Between the body 13 and the element 16, and between the pins 15, is arranged a plate 28 (see Fig. 8) having stepped profiles 30. The freedom of the element 16 to slide in the direction of work feed is thus limited by this plate 28, the permitted movement being zero when that part of the stepped profiles corresponding to the index letter O is between the pins. In this position the button is concentric with the needle when the latter is midway between the extremes of its zig-zag movement. This position is employed when a two-hole button is being sewn. The element 16 carries pairs of pins marked A to D so disposed that the distance between the axes of a pair of pins corresponds with the total sliding movement permitted to the element 16 when that part of the profiles of the plate 28 bearing an index letter corresponding to that of the pair of pins, is disposed between the pins 15. To sew on a four-holed button the plate 28 is set with that index letter corresponding to the distance between the pairs of holes, lying between the pins 15. The element 16 is then slid to one of the other of its extreme positions in turn to bring one or the other of the pairs of holes beneath the needles. Needles moving laterally.-The amplitude of the zig-zag of the needle is set to correspond with the distance between the holes of a pair by an element 36 which is placed loosely on the appropriate shaft of the sewing-machine to replace the usual cams controlling the work feed and the zig-zag movements of the needle. The element has three zones 41, 42, 43 which cooperate with the cam followers controlling the zig-zag amplitude, needle position and work feed respectively. The element is provided with index letters corresponding to those provided on the plate 28 and for the pins 35, which when aligned with a reference mark on the machine arm, cause the appropriate needle movements, and zero work feed, to be set. The element 36 also carries an engraving which when set with respect to the reference mark positions the element to set the needle mechanism so that it penetrates only the left of a pair of holes to finish off the button sewing. 909,974. Shirt collars. DONNER, J. Nov. 15, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 42423/59. Class 141. In a shirt collar having a reinforcement. piece 8 fused to the lining 6 along the whole length or at the end portions only of the collar, a stiffener 12 for each collar point is held in place between the reinforcement piece 8 and lining 6 or between the reinforcement piece and its folded-over end portion 10 as shown, solely by fusion together of the plies on opposite sides of the stiffener. The V-shaped stiffener is made of thermoplastic material.
