Abstract

909,744. Solenoid-operated bolts. CLARKE, F. M. Sept. 21, 1959 [May 26, 1959], No. 17902/59. Class 44. A lock mechanism comprises a locking bolt 7 which is movable endwise between its locked and unlocked positions by means of an actuating member separate from and mounted for movement transversely of the locking bolt, the actuating member including means 6 adapted to engage the locking bolt in either of its two positions and move it into the other position. The actuating member shown consists of the means 6 which is a leaf spring and a member 3 which is the armature of a solenoid. The member 3 is biased upwardly by a spring 5. Energization of the solenoid coil moves the member 3 downwardly and the means 6 engages one or other of two branches 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>2</SP> of a recess 8 on the bolt to withdraw the bolt or vice versa depending on which branch of the recess is engaged. The lock mechanism may be used for a motor vehicle, three of the doors having such a mechanism controlled by a key switch on the driver's door and if desired by an additional switch on the dashboard.
