909,252. Making lawn mowers; brazing. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd., and REVETT, R. H. March 17, 1959 [Jan. 27, 1958], No. 2742/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). In making a lawn mower cutter reel, spiral cutter collars 1 are assembled on an axle 2 and spiral cutters 3 are fitted into the collars, the assembly is clamped, each joint between the collars and the cutters is encircled or part encircled with a clip 9 of brazing material and the assembly is heated to braze the cutters and collars. The collars 1 may be welded at 8 on to the axle 2 before the spiral cutters 3 are mounted in radial slots 4 and the assembly held together by clamping bands 5 or jigs. If the collars are not welded to the axle, a piece of brazing material is placed over each joint between the collars and axle. Clips 9 of brazing material are placed about the joints between the cutters and collars and the assembly is attached to a hook on a travelling conveyer and is carried through a cyamide salt or neutral salt bath at 930‹ C. The conveyer lifts the assembly to a second bath containing nitrate salt or oil for quenching and tempering. Brazing may be effected in an oven and tempering may be effected in a hot air blast.
