Abstract
909,179. Hot-water boilers; supply arrangements. CLEAVER-BROOKS CO. March 28, 1960 [Oct. 1, 1959], No. 10839/60. Class 64 (1). In a horizontal cylindrical boiler, fired by a burner 28 with one or more nozzles directed into a cylindrical combustion chamber 14, extending adjacent the bottom of the boiler from a front tube plate 12 to a rear tube plate 13, from which chamber the gases execute several passes through tubes 15a, 15b, 15c before exhausting through an outlet 16, the water is said to circulate over the tubes and combustion chamber in the direction indicated by the arrows and this is assisted therefore by having the water inlet 50 directed towards the front of the boiler and the outlet 51 may be arranged as in Fig. 1, or directed towards the back, as in Fig. 9, if the inlet and outlet are arranged at the middle of the cylinder. A fan 26 passes air for combustion into a chamber 24 mounted outwardly of a circular door 23 which closes flue header chambers 30, 31 and the air passes into the burner 28. Combustion gases leaving the rear end of the combustion chamber 14 pass back from a header chamber 20 to the front header chamber 30 through side tubes 15a. From chamber 30 the gases then pass through tubes 15b just above the chamber 14 to an upper rear chamber 21 from which upper tubes 15c conduct them to the chamber 31 and the outlet 16.
