Abstract

909,165. Automatic circuit-breakers. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. July 29, 1959 [July 30, 1958], No. 26030/59. Class 38 (5). A snap-action spring which normally acts as a contact pressure spring, is moved over centre when the contacts are opened by electrodynamic repulsion due to heavy excess currents and the spring completes the opening movement. In Fig. 1, a shaft 8 coupled to circuitbreaker operating means, including thermal and/or electromagnetic overload trip devices (not shown) carries two parallel plates 7 between which a moving contact arm 22 is pivoted at 3. Tension springs 4 between a pin on the plates 7 and a pin 6 on the arm 2 bias the pin 6 to either end of slots 9 in the plates 7. In the contact closed position the arm 2 engages a fixed contact 1 forming a looped current path so that heavy excess currents effect repulsion of the arm 2 moving the spring 4 across the pivot 3 so that it snaps the arm 2 to the Fig. 2 position against a stop 12. The arm is reset to its other position with the pin 6 at the left-hand end of the slot 9 by clockwise movement of the shaft 8 and plates 7. In Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), the position of the pivot 3 and the pin 6 are reversed and a compression spring is used.
