Abstract

[Also in Group XL (c)] In a monitoring system for the instruments of a nuclear reactor to provide a " shut down " warning in the event of a component failure, the monitoring means includes a number of " trip modules " (see Group XL (c)) each comprising two transistors connected to be operated into one of two states depending on the presence or absence of a predetermined number of monitoring signals, checking pulses also being supplied and appearing at the output only if normal conditions exist. As described, when all the instrument relay contacts and interlocks are closed, the checking pulse signals from the oscillator are fed through the path DF of each module allowing the magnetic clutch to be operated by the switch S, and the control arm to be raised or lowered. If, however, an interlock contact is opened, the control module 9 is tripped and the control arm is automatically lowered. Similarly, if a module in the chain circuit of the instrument circuit is tripped, the magnetic clutch is de-energized and the control arm is again automatically lowered.
