Abstract

907,883. Power generating systems. MARGUERRE, F. May 12, 1959 [May 12, 1958], No. 16314/59. Class 122 (3). A power generating system comprises a main steam plant and an auxiliary steam plant, the latter including a condenser 10a, 10b cooled by water previously used for cooling purposes in the main plant and a storage reservoir 6 charged by heat derived from partly-used steam of the main plant. A main turbine 1 supplied with steam from a boiler (not shown) drives a generator 2 and exhausts to a condenser 3 from whence condensate is returned by a pump 4 to the boiler through regenerative heaters 4a. Water is drawn from the bottom of the reservoir 6 by a pump 5b, heated in regenerative heaters 5, in parallel with heaters 4a, and returned to the reservoir 6 which has a circulatory discharge system including an evaporator 7 and pump 7a. Steam from the evaporator may be used in an auxiliary turbine 8 driving a peak-load generator 9 and exhausting to jet condensers 10a, 10b using cooling water taken from the cooling water outlet of the condenser 3. Part of the output of the condensers 10a, 10b, which may be stored in a vessel 12, is delivered via pipe 14 and heaters 5 to the reservoir 6. If desired, and as shown in dotted lines, some of the exhaust steam from the turbine 8 may be led via a reservoir 21 to an evaporator 22 from which it is drawn by a compressor 23 and delivered to the reservoir 6.
