Abstract
907,385. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Oct. 27, 1958 [Oct. 30, 1957], No. 34366/58. Class 39 (1). An electron gun for a cathode-ray tube comprises a cathode 38, an apertured accelerating electrode 26 and, between them, two apertured grids 52, 60, the apertures of the grids being provided with fine-mesh screens 70, 72. The arrangement is such that, in operation, a virtual cathode is formed between the grids and electrons therefrom are focused at a cross-over point between grid 60 and electrode 26. As shown, the cathode is supported in an apertured collimating electrode 48 to which grids 52, 60 are also secured by screws 66 with the interposition of insulating washers 56, 58. Grid 60 is secured to a thicker metallic member 64 so that the field between it and electrode 26 dips into aperture 65 to form a strong converging lens. Preferred dimensions and spacings of the electrodes and apertures are given.
