Abstract
906,303. Centrifugal separators. PRECISION MECANIQUE LABINAL. Nov. 18, 1959 [Nov. 19, 1958 ; Dec. 9, 1958], No. 39078/59. Class 23. [Also in Groups I and XXVI] Apparatus for moving a fluid and separating particles therefrom comprises a rotor having a bladed part rotating the fluid to remove coarse particles by density separation, and an annular filtering screen downstream of the bladed part for the removal of fine particles. The screen has vertical pleats as shown in Fig. 5. The rotor of Fig. 1 is adapted to be immersed in liquid within a container having a lid on which is mounted a motor driving the rotor shaft 1, the container having baffles preventing rotation of all the liquid. Liquid drawn in through the aperture 6 passes between blades 4 into a chamber 9 where coarse solids are deposited. From the chamber liquid passes through the screen 8 and a perforated cylinder 7 to remove fine solids, and is finally discharged from the rotor through blades 12. The rotor may be dismantled for cleaning by removing a nut 2. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) for removing solids from air, the rotor has a short shaft driven from a motor which depends from springs, and the chamber 9 is extended downwardly past the blades 4 to form a removable annular collecting pocket. The apparatus shown in Fig. 6 is adapted to remove solid and liquid particles from air, the collecting chamber 45 downstream of the blades 46 having a plug 45b removable for discharge of liquid. The rotor has an additional screen 49a below the screen 49, liquid thrown from the screen 49 passing through ports 53a into a chamber 54 having a plug 54a. Blades 51 are attached to the screen 49. In the water purifying plant shown in Fig. 7 the rotor is housed in a pit 55. Water is continuously supplied to the top of the pit through a duct 76 and passes into the rotor 56 through blades 66 to deposit solids in the chamber 63. The water passes through the screen 65 and turbine blades 64 into a volute chamber 74 to discharge from the pit. Specification 838,524 is referred to.
