Abstract
Conjugated dienes are polymerized in a hydrocarbon medium in presence of a catalyst composition formed by mixing a nickel and/or cobalt halide with a Friedel-Crafts metal halide in presence of a hydrocarbon diluent. The Friedel-Crafts halide is preferably of Al or Zn, halides of FeIII, Sn;IV and Ti;IV being also mentioned; in examples AlCl3, AlBr3, TiCl4 and ZnCl2 are specified. The catalyst may be aged before use, if desired. Specifications 824,418 and 906,055 are referred to.ALSO:Conjugated dienes are polymerized in a hydrocarbon medium in presence of a catalyst composition formed by mixing a nickel and/or cobalt halide with a Friedel-Crafts metal halide in presence of a hydrocarbon diluent. The Friedel-Crafts halide is preferably of Al or Zn, halides of FeIII, SnIV and TiIV being also mentioned; in examples AlCl3, AlBr3, TiCl4 and ZnCl2 are specified. The catalyst may be aged before use, if desired. Specified monomers are butadiene, isoprene, piperylene, 2-methyl-1:3-pentadiene, 4-methyl-1:3-hexadiene, 2:4:6-octatriene and 2:3-dimethyl-, 2-ethyl-, 2-isopropyl- and 2-arylbutadienes; mixtures of such monomers with each other or with a -olefins such as ethylene or propylene may be copolymerized. Specifications 824,418 and 906,055 are referred to.
