Abstract
905,259. Fluid actuation of switches. BENDIX CORPORATION. Dec. 30, 1960 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 44802/60. Class 38 (5). A pressure-operated switch comprises two adjustably spaced rigid plates 10 and 11 connected by a bellows 30, an aperture in plate 11 being closed by a diaphragm 19 carrying a stirrup-shaped contact 23 into which projects a contact 15 carried by the plate 10. A chamber C<SP>1</SP>, defined by the plates, bellows, and diaphragm acts as a reference chamber and may be evacuated or filled with an inert gas. Gas may be introduced by a pipe F to a chamber C formed between a rigid cap 21 and the diaphragm. The contacts are preferably made of platinum. The plates 10 and 11 are secured together at adjacent comers by screws 12 having weakened centre-portions and at the opposite side by a spring-loaded screw 13, adjustment of which varies the relative positions of the contacts and hence the pressure-setting of the switch. In Fig. 4 (not shown), a twoway switch has two fixed contacts, both adjustable by the bellows as above and one being adjustable in relation to the other by a similar bellows arrangement.
