Abstract

905,053. Smoothing direct current. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 15, 1960 [July 22, 1959], No. 24681/60. Class 38 (2). A small power rectifier arrangement giving a regulated and filtered output comprises a constant voltage transformer T whose output is rectified by a rectifier MR1 and filtered by a capacitor C1, there being provided a transistor Tr whose emitter-collector circuit is in the output circuit and whose base is connected to a second smaller rectified output derived through a rectifier MR2 from a tapping on the transformer secondary winding and filtered by a capacitor C2. As shown, a potentiometer P allows some variation of the second output. The output current Io flows through the emitter-collector circuit and the output voltage is kept only slightly different from the voltage across C2 and has a low nipple factor. The constancy of the output voltage with load current is also improved.
