Abstract
905,027. Coiling; making helical tubing of non-circular section. HUET, A. Dec. 31 1958 [Feb. 3, 1958], No. 42237/58. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). Tubing is coiled to helical form by being pushed through a coiling machine without being subjected to any pulling action. Tubing c, of circular section or, Fig. 3, of lenticular section, is fed to coiling means by a train of driven rolls a co-operating with a train of support rolls b urged towards the rolls a by fluid pressure means f. The rolls a, b may also serve to convert circular sectioned tubing into tubing of flattened section. Sanders 25 are provided between the rollers a to increase their frictional feed on the tubing. The coiling means comprises driven rollers i, j mounted in a block k, pivotable about an axis A of the roller i, and an opposed roller m slidable in the block k towards the rollers i, j. Prior to coiling, the block k is positioned so that the rollers i, j are in line with the rolls a, however, when the tubing reaches the rollers i, j, the bending roller m is moved down by a toggle o, p actuated by a jack t thus to bend the tubing and by reaction cause the block k to pivot to a position of equilibrium, Fig. 2, where it is held by a hook x. The roller j is slightly displaced from the supply plane of the tubing and rollers i and m. Adjustable grooved rollers 1, 2 and 3, Fig. 5, displace the tubing from the supply plane and determine its helical pitch. The coiled tubing is supported internally by cylindrical rolls 9, 10 and 11, Fig. 7, and externally by cylindrical rolls 13, 14 and 15 adjustably carried by an adjustable frame 16. The rollers i, j may be shaped to flatten circular-sectioned tubing.
