Abstract

Compositions for treating infections of the human and animal eye comprise a carrier and, as essential active ingredient, a compound of general formula <FORM:0904797/VI/1> wherein R1 represents hydrogen, amino, acylamido, lower (C1-) alkoxycarbonylamino, amidinophenyldiazoimino or the 2-amino-6-methyl-pyrimid-4-ylamino group quaternized in the 1-position, R2 represents amino, acylamido, lower (C1-) alkoxycarbonylamino, amidinophenyldiazoimino or the 2-amino-6-methyl-pyrimid-4 ylamino group quaternized in the 1-position, R3 represents alkyl, aralkyl, alkenyl, aralkenyl or aryl all of which may carry as further substituents one or more amino, alkylamino, nitro, halo, alkyl or alkoxy groups, R4 represents alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or amino-alkyl and X represents a pharmaceutically acceptable anion. The compositions may be in conventional forms, e.g. eye-drops, pellets, ointments and dusting powders. Bacteriostatic agents, e.g. "cetrimide" may also be present.
