Abstract
903,756. Carburetters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 8, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 20734/61. Addition to 880,196. Class 7(3) A carburetter for an internal-combustion engine comprises a casing through which extends an air induction passage 16 in which are rotatably mounted a throttle valve 18 and an air valve 20 which is located anteriorly of the throttle valve; a servo-device operatively connected to the air valve so as to control its degree of opening in accordance with the fluid pressure differential across the air valve; a fuel reservoir 40 connected to the induction passage intermediate the air and throttle valves by a conduit which includes a tube 54 projecting into the induction passage so that air flow past the tube induces a flow of fuel from the reservoir to the induction passage and which has therein a metering orifice 42 controlled by a rod 38 linked to the servo-device so that the flow of fuel through the metering orifice is proportional to the degree of opening of the air valve and a device 82 responsive to induction passage pressure posteriorly of the throttle valve adapted to bleed a restricted amount of atmospheric air into the conduit to reduce the fuel flow therethrough. The carburetter includes a choke valve 60 and a valve device 74 operative when the choke valve is closed to increase the fuel supply to the induction conduit but inoperative to effect control of the fuel supply when the choke valve is open. The valve device is biased by a spring so as to open only when the choke valve is closed during engine cranking. An accelerator pump (not shown) supplies additional fuel during acceleration.
