Abstract

903,626. Clinometers. PLASSER, F. Jan. 20, 1960 [Jan. 27, 1959], No. 2118/60. Class 97 (2). For use in a method of aligning railway tracks in which one line of rails 3<SP>11</SP> is brought to its correct height with regard to the longitudinal section of the track and then the second line of rails 3<SP>1</SP> is raised until it is at the same level as, or has the correct super-elevation with respect to, the first line of rails 3<SP>11</SP>, a track lifting device is provided which has a pendulum 7 which, when a predetermined transverse inclination of the two lines of rails is reached, automatically ends the travel of the rail lifting means. The frame 1 of the device is supported on the rails 3<SP>1</SP>, 3<SP>11</SP> by wheels 2 and carries a pivot 6 on which the pendulum 7 swings and on which contact carriers 8, 9 are adjustably mounted, the carriers 8, 9 being locked in position by screws 13 engaging arcuate slots 14. As sho vn, carrier 8 has been pivoted out of the way and carrier 9 set to zero on a scale 15. On supplying pressure fluid through pipe 22 to the cylinder, shown diagrammatically at 16, the line of rails 3<SP>1</SP> is raised until contact 10 on pendulum 7 touches contact 12 on carrier 9 whereupon an electromagnet 25 is energized to close valve 23 against the action of spring 24 and so prevent further movement of cylinder 16. The line of rails 3<SP>1</SP> is then fixed in position by packing tools and the device moved to another part of the track.
